   Blackburn are close to signing Rangers attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell.

   Rovers are confident of beating the deadline for the 26-year-old, who handed his a transfer request at Ibrox this summer.

   Cantwell has spent 20 months in Glasgow since moving from Norwich and won the Scottish League Cup last season but has struggled to make a consistent impact.

   Blackburn are looking for attacking reinforcements having sold Sammie Szmodics, last season's 27-goal Championship top scorer, to Ipswich this month.

   I posted a few hours ago now that Brighton could have a busy deadline day.

   That is proving to be the case.

   Talks are ongoing around Conrad Harder, the young Danish striker from Nordsjaelland.

   But there are outgoings too.

   These include midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, who may return to Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.

   Conversations are also continuing around Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour, who Napoli are keen to bring in.

   West Ham forward Maxwel Cornet is in talks over a season-long loan move to Southampton, which would include an option to buy.

   The 27-year-old was subject to talks last night as he looks to earn more consistent game time away from the London Stadium and negotiations have continued into deadline day.

   The Ivorian's career has stalled since making the move to east London from Burnley in 2022.

   Everton are desperate to flesh out a paper-thin squad butwith no money to spend it may be a difficult day for director of football KevinThelwell and manager Sean Dyche to do business.

   Lyon’s 26-year-old Belgian international midfielder OrelMangala looks set to arrive on loan as Everton look to strengthen after adismal start to the Premier League season with two defeats – seven goalsconceded and none scored – against Brighton and Tottenham.

   Will anyone be tempted to make a low-ball bid for strikerDominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been linked with Newcastle United and Chelseathis summer, as he is in the final year of his contract and showing no signs ofbeing tempted by a new deal?

   Everton need the money but would struggle to replace Calvert-Lewinat short notice. The former England striker has struggled with injuries inrecent seasons but, even when not at his best, is one of the few threats in animpotent side.

   One plus is that Everton have held on to prize asset JarradBranthwaite, rejecting offers from Manchester United – the only problem is theyoung England defender is still out injured.

   Ipswich forward Omari Hutchinson has been called up England Under-21s for the first time by interim head coach Ben Futcher.

   The 24-man squad also includes Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, who was included in the senior men's squad for the summer's Euro 2024 tournament in Germany.

   Harvey Elliott , Archie Gray, Lewis Hall, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jarell Quansah are all returning to the set-up for September's qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Austria.

    There may be excitement about a potential deal for Napoli's Victor Osimhen, or another striker if that fails to materialise, but outgoings are also key for Chelsea.

    Arsenal have been offered winger Raheem Sterling but he can't leave until issues around a pay-out for losing some of his projected earnings while on over £300,000-a-week will be key.

    If all bonuses are met, his side believe they are owed a staggering £70m, which would have to be made up, or a loss negotiated between him, the buying club and Chelsea.

    There appears to be little interest in England full-back Ben Chilwell at this stage, with a move to either Manchester United or Brentford unlikely.

    There has been significant interest in defender Trevoh Chalobah, but his wages have put clubs off amid reported interest from Atalanta.

    Reports in France suggest Chelsea will sell Brazillian striker Deivid Washington for £17.7m to partner club Strasbourg, while Venezia are in talks to sign defender Zak Sturge from Chelsea's Under-21s.

    There is loan and permanent transfer interest in Carney Chukwuemeka, Angelo Gabriel, Harvey Vale, Alex Matos and Billy Gee, and Burton Albion hope to complete a season-long loan move for striker Ronnie Stutter.

    Brentford striker Ivan Toney is on the brink of a move tothe Saudi Pro League.

    It is understood the Bees have accepted a bid in the regionof £40m from Al-Ahli for the England forward.

    Sources close to the player have said they believe the dealwill go through, and Toney will complete the transfer.

    It is not known how this would affect Victor Osimhen’sproposed move to Al-Ahli from Napoli.

    The Saudi transfer window does not close until Monday (2 September),so the transfer does not have to be completed by the Premier League deadline of23:00 BST.

    Toney has not played for Brentford so far this season andmanager Thomas Frank has already ruled the 28-year-old out of tomorrow’s gameagainst Southampton.

    The front-man was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad at Euro2024, although his three appearances – including in the final defeat by Spain –were all as a late substitute when England were chasing the game. Toney scoreda penalty in the shootout victory over Switzerland, when he found the netwithout looking at the ball.

    He scored 20 goals in the 2022-23 Premier League season butfailed to score for his club again after hitting four in his first five gameslast season after returning from an eight-month suspension after breaching FAbetting rules.

    Talking about Bournemouth, Cheries boss Andoni Iraola held his news conference this morning.

    He was asked about Neto's potential move to Arsenal, following Thursday's arrival of Spain goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea: "If it happens I think it would be a very good option for him and we're in a really good place with Kepa. [Mark] Travers is staying as well. The main idea of the club is to have three keepers."

    On Bournemouth's transfer business so far: "I'm happy with the players we have. Obviously as a manager you want the best players possible, but I think we have very good players. The level of competition has grown a lot and everyone has improved."

    Bournemouth striker Dan Jebbison has joined Watford on a season-long loan.

    Jebbison, 21, signed for Bournemouth earlier this summer, joining the club on a free after his contract expired at Sheffield United.

    "I am very excited, and I just can’t wait to really show how I can help the team," Jebbison told watfordfc.com. "I am a sponge right now, I want to soak up everything and learn as much as possible, and be a better player on and off the pitch."

    On Watford manager Tom Cleverley, he added: "There is a good structure here with good people, and good things that you don’t see behind the scenes. The gaffer is very ambitious in his goals, he is very clear in his mind what he wants, and we share the same values."

    I don't see this window as a disaster by any means for Newcastle. Being held back by FFP and with staff changes, we've sensibly made the decision not to buy for the sake of buying and bring in the wrong players. As Howe says, frustrating to do nothing in the short term, but this is a long-term strategy.

    We heard earlier from Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on "hope" he still has on strengthening his squad before the summer transfer window closes.

    Howe was also asked whether he would be happy to continue with his current squad: "I think there would be a feeling that we have a good squad and we like all of the players we have in our squad, but there is a feeling of course that there are a few areas of the squad that we felt we needed to strengthen.

    "I think we will carry those emotions, depending on what happens, into the last few hours [of the transfer window]."

    I have been told by a very reliable source that Ivan Toney will be moving to Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

    They did have a bid rejected by Brentford earlier this month but it appears they are getting to the right fee.

    I am not sure what that means for Victor Osimhen but it would show the financial power of the Saudi Pro League that they can attract someone who was part of England's Euro 2024 squad.

    Wolves' £10m move for Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone comes after they were priced out of a deal for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who is close to joining Southampton, having made a loan bid with an option to buy for around £20m.

    Wolves' sporting director Matt Hobbs said: “It's great for us to have a player with a huge amount of Premier League experience and an international goalkeeper.

    "It’s an area of the pitch we wanted to add more competition and, for us, it's finding the right balance between the level of investment, what it adds to the squad and what it enables us to do for the rest of the squad."

    Wolves are understood to have paid £10m to Crystal Palace for England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

    His four-year contract at Molineux includes the option of a further year.

    Sporting director Matt Hobbs said, external: “People know that we’re looking for good characters and we're not going to take someone who is a really good player but doesn’t fit culturally. He ticks a lot of boxes and it’s up to him and the others to fight out for that position."

    He will be in competition with Portugal goalkeeper Jose Sa.
